Description
The Doctor of Philosophy Degree is offered by the University of Pretoria and is supported by the Cape Town Baptist Seminary through a cooperative partnership. This programme is supported Administratively and Academically by the Seminary in order to ensure student success in the respective programme.
This programme is by Thesis and requires the attendance of Research Methodology contact sessions that may or may not be supported by technology. Your thesis will be guided by a specialist in the area of your research.
Mode of Delivery
The programme is offered via Distance Mode and will not require you to attend the University of Pretoria in the process of completing your thesis since the programme is supported by the Cape Town Baptist Seminary.
Duration of Study
This programme requires a minimum of two (2) years Full Time academic study.

Admission Requirements
- Relevant Master’s Degree.
- At least 65% for the research component at Master’s level.
- Students who obtained 63% to 64% may be considered for PhD preparatory studies.
- English language proficiency as determined by a proficiency test.
- Hebrew passed at second-year level of the Bachelor’s Degree.
- Greek passed at second-year level of the Bachelor’s Degree or an admissions examination may be required.
International students who have completed articulating qualifications outside of the Republic of South Africa are required to submit Verification of their Qualifications by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). The minimum requirements for admission to this programme by students in this category is a SAQA verified NQF 9 qualification.

The Seminary is able to acknowledge prior learning, whether formal, informal or non-formal, in accordance with the Institutional Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy based on guidelines provided by the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and in keeping with the same issued by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
Any prior accredited studies in theology will be evaluated for possible credit towards the Higher Certificate in Christian Leadership in accordance with the Institutional Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CAT) Policy.
